Apple Spice Bread

I made two loaves of this last week for my daughter's preschool teachers who stopped by for a visit. I love to make this in the Fall time, but it's good all year around--especially for breakfast with a cup of coffee! The aroma makes the entire house smell yummy, too!

1 1/3 Cups Flour
3/4 tsp Baking Soda
1/2 tsp Salt
1 tsp Cinnamon
1/4 tsp Ground Cloves
1 Cup plus 1 tsp Sugar
1/2 Cup Vegetable Oil
2 Eggs, Beaten
1 tsp Vanilla Extract
2 Cups peeled, chopped Apples
1/2 Cup chopped Walnuts (optional)

*Mix together flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and cloves. Set aside.
*Mix 1 Cup sugar with oil in large bowl. Stir in eggs and vanilla, then apples and nuts. Stir in flour mixture. Pour into greased loaf pan.
*Bake at 325 degrees for 50 minutes. After bread has baked for 20 minutes, remove from oven and sprinkle top of bread with 1 tsp. sugar. Return to oven and continue baking.
